Key West is surrounded be thousands of tiny mangrove islands, uninhabited except for flocks of ocean birds and Keys' wildlife, available for exploration by kayak. The waers that surround Key West contain more than six hundred varieties of edible fish. For sportfishing there is tarpon, amberjack, dolphin and kingfish. There is daily scuba diving windsurfing, sailing and swimming. The ocean is the sportlover's playground.
Key West has an active softball league involving people from all walks of life. There is volleyball on the beach, tennis courts all over the island, golf at 18-hole course, power boat races, sailboat races, billiard and bocce tournaments, beachcombing, mangrove wandering, bicycling and road running. There are over 12 thousand bicycles used daily by Key West residents, more per capita than any other city in the US.
